As part of our project we want to inspire people of all ages to learn more about the River Severn – its wildlife and the important role it has always played for local communities.

So we are thrilled to be collaborating with Severn Valley Country Park – to provide a very special themed play area and family sculpture trail.

A wooden Severn Trow  – the historic river barge for river transport before the tow-path –  will be the centre-piece of the play area.  You can see a section of the design drawings above.  There will be lots of inspiration for imaginative play including steering the boat, load cargo and to keep a look-out. A sculpted bow haulier will be showing the very hard work of heaving the vessel upstream.

In addition a beautifully carved wildlife trail will track down to the river and back again, encouraging families to explore the Severn Valley Country Park and learn more about the river on their way.

Installation should begin next week and we can’t wait to show you more but in the meantime here are some sneaky peaks of the family play trail equipment and sculptures that are being loaded up ready to bring to site…
