See how fish move up and down the river!
Across a period of five years, researchers working on the River Severn, tagged individual fish of five different species with acoustic tags and then tracked the movements of these fish on the river, using receivers along the river.
Here we display the movements of European barbel (Barbus barbus), pike (Esox lucius), zander (Sander lucioperca), sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus L.) and twaite shad (Alosa fallax).
How to use the map:
Select the species of fish you want to look at, and drag to view a particular date or check the box to see data before or after our project altered Powick weir. Then press play. If you’d like to see a different species or vary the environmental parameters please pause the animation before changing your selections. NB You can also move around in the map to an area of interest or zoom out to see an overview of a much wider stretch of river.
