by Sally Aspden

Overnight, a lake

has sprung from nowhere

on the Severn floodplain.

A huge shining lake

complete with seagulls bathing.

Yet it hasn’t rained.

Some bewildered moments

until I twig:

Last night a full moon shone.

This morning’s tide

pulled by moon and equinox

must have bored upstream,

spilled over, receded,

gifting an entire lake

gleaming in spring light.

Sally attended one of our wildlife photography workshops when part of the planned route was flooded by the Severn bore.  We love this poem she shared with us, beautifully capturing some of the magic of this great river.
