Salmon of the Severn with Chris Bainger
Join Unlocking the Severn and expert Chris Bainger, Environment Agency Fisheries Specialist, for a fascinating talk all about the salmon of the Severn!
Chris will provide some interesting insights into salmon lifecycle as well as explaining the importance of the River Severn to salmon migration. We will learn about the threats these fish are facing from climate change and barriers to migration, and find out how conservation efforts (including our fish passes) are working to prevent the disappearance of these iconic fish from our rivers.
This is an extremely challenging time for salmon on the Severn. As populations reach critically low levels, attempts at reversing their decline have been reflected in further changes to salmon fishing byelaws. There has never been a more important time to understand our influence on the wildlife that rely on our rivers.
This session is suitable for a general audience and assumes no prior scientific knowledge of salmon.
This free talk will be hosted on Zoom.
Joining details will be sent out to registered participants in advance using the email address provided. The talk will be tailored to adults but is also suitable for older children, who should be supervised during the event.
